This policy explains what personal data is processed when you visit the Loharo website, why, and what rights you have. We aim to collect as little personal data as possible.
1. Who we are
This website is operated by Loharo (legal entity name, registered address and, where applicable, company registration number). In this policy, “Loharo”, “we” and “us” refer to that operator. Contact for privacy questions: privacy@loharo.com.
2. Data we process when you visit
Visitors who are not logged in. We do not use analytics, advertising or social-media tracking pixels on the website, and we do not set cookies for ordinary visitors who are not logged in. Email open and click measurement applies only to newsletter subscribers (see section 5).
Server and security logs. Like any website, our hosting infrastructure automatically processes technical data when you request a page: your IP address, browser and device information (user agent), the page requested, the referring page and the date and time. This is necessary to deliver the website, keep it secure and diagnose faults. Retention period of these logs: [Owner to confirm].
Login and site security. The administration area is protected against password-guessing and other attacks. Security measures used for this may process the IP address and username of people attempting to log in, and may temporarily block suspicious requests. This only concerns people attempting to log in or sending suspicious requests.
3. Cookies
We only use cookies that are strictly necessary for WordPress to function for logged-in editors:
wordpress_test_cookie: checks that the browser accepts cookies on the login page.wordpress_[hash],wordpress_sec_[hash]andwordpress_logged_in_[hash]: keep editors logged in to the administration area.wp-settings-[id]andwp-settings-time-[id]: remember editors’ dashboard display preferences.
If you subscribe to the newsletter, the newsletter service may set a functional cookie in your browser, kept for up to 347 days, to remember your subscription choices. These cookies are only set when someone logs in or subscribes. Because they are strictly necessary, they do not require consent. If we ever introduce analytics or other non-essential cookies, we will update this policy and ask for consent where the law requires it.
4. When you email us
If you contact us by email, we use your email address, name and the content of your message to reply and to handle your request (for example, a correction). We keep this correspondence only as long as necessary for that purpose and for our records of corrections. The website has no contact forms and comments are disabled.
5. Newsletter
If you sign up for our free newsletter (the Weekly Briefing), we process your email address, the date and time you subscribed, the page on which you signed up, your subscription preferences and your confirmation status. When you sign up, the newsletter service also records technical data about the sign-up request (your IP address, browser request headers and the page address) to detect and prevent abuse and spam. Signing up is optional.
Confirming your subscription. After you sign up, you receive a confirmation email and your subscription only starts when you click the link in it. (If you already have a WordPress.com account, the service may skip this email because your address is already verified.) When you confirm, WordPress.com links your subscription to a WordPress.com account, which lets you manage your subscriptions and choose how often you receive emails. You will not receive marketing from WordPress.com or Jetpack because of this.
Who delivers the newsletter. The sign-up form and newsletter are provided by Jetpack Newsletter, a service of Automattic Inc. (WordPress.com). Your subscription details are stored by Automattic and the emails are sent from its infrastructure (sender address donotreply@wordpress.com). Automattic acts as our service provider (processor) and may process data in the United States. See Automattic’s Privacy Policy.
Open and click measurement. Newsletter emails contain standard measurement that records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, so we can see which topics are useful and improve the briefing. This applies only to subscribers, not to website visitors. Most email programs let you block images, which stops open measurement.
Unsubscribing. Every newsletter contains an unsubscribe link. You can also ask us to remove you by emailing privacy@loharo.com. You can manage your subscriptions at any time through the link in each email.
How long we keep it. We keep your subscription details for as long as you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we keep only what is needed to respect your choice and to show that you had consented, and delete the rest.
6. Links and embedded content
Our articles link to external sources such as government notices, company statements and other publications. Those websites have their own privacy policies; we are not responsible for their practices. If we embed content from other websites in future, those websites may collect data about you as if you had visited them directly.
7. Hosting, processors and backups
The website is hosted on Microsoft Azure (Azure App Service, with the database on Azure Database for MySQL), which processes data on our behalf as a service provider. Hosting region: [Owner to confirm]. The site uses WordPress plugins from Automattic (Jetpack) to provide the newsletter and related site features; Automattic processes newsletter subscriber data on our behalf as described in section 5. Website backups, which contain the site database, are stored [Owner to confirm] (backup method and storage location).
8. Legal basis
Where the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we process server and security logs and login-protection data on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating a secure and reliable website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), and email correspondence on the basis of our legitimate interest in responding to you or, where relevant, to take steps at your request (Article 6(1)(b)). We send the newsletter, and measure opens and clicks in it, on the basis of your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), which you give by signing up and confirming your subscription. You can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing; this does not affect processing that took place before.
9. International transfers
Our service providers, including Microsoft and Automattic, may process data outside your country. Where personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area or the UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses offered by our providers. [Owner to confirm]
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. To exercise these rights, email privacy@loharo.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. Lead supervisory authority for the operator: [Owner to confirm].
11. Children
Loharo is a professional publication and is not directed at children.
12. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices change, for example if we introduce paid subscriptions, analytics or advertising. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
